SEN-012
REVERSE PARKING SENSOR
Many cars are fitted with reverse parking sensors to help drivers detect hidden obstacles which may collide with the rear of the car while reverse parking. The sensors usually operate using ultrasonic echo signals similar to those used in ultrasound and depth finders.
An array of sensor heads are mounted into the rear bumper of your car. When reverse gear is selected, the reversing sensor activates and begins reporting any obstacles.
This principle works fine until a trailer is hitched to the vehicle. The sensor is made useless by two changes:
- The crash zone is now extended to the back end of the trailer (not the rear end of the vehicle).
- The reversing sensor’s reading will be the distance from the rear vehicle bumper to the front of the trailer. As many reversing sensors provide an audible feedback, the beeper will be blasting out a constant " impact imminent " signal
- Trailer sensing
The module constantly monitors the trailer socket of the vehicle. If a trailer is plugged into the socket at any time before, during or after the reverse gear is selected, the SEN-012 will disable the reversing sensor until reverse gear is de-selected. Even if the trailer is momentarily unplugged while reverse gear is engaged, the sensor will remain disabled.
To enable the reversing sensor: - Un-plug the trailer (and unhitch).
- Re-select reverse gear.
- Automatic reversing sensor re-enable
Once the trailer is unplugged, the SEN-012 will re-enable the reversing sensor when reverse gear is next selected
